'The
Shinkickers' have
been on the Perth music scene for the past ten
years and has been the ongoing project of Gerry Quigley and Terry Pugh
during that time. Now they have the best line up ever. Powerful,
dynamic, spine-tingling are words that come to mind when you have just
experienced one of their gigs. So if you are in town, find out where
they are playing and treat yourself. You will not be disappointed. They
are pure musical talent. (and a really great bunch of guys!)
A Brief History.......
Gerry grew up in a musical family in Dublin and started learning
guitar at 14. His only formal training was from Eric Bell (the original
guitarist from Thin Lizzy). His band Raw Deal achieved success in
Ireland and the U.K. He moved to Australia over 20 years ago and
started 'The Shinkickers' in 1995.
Terry blackmailed his parents into buying him an electric organ
when he was just a wee lad of 7. Leaving school and organ lessons
behind at 16 to join his first band he soon found himself in a niche of
hard rock and blues. He joined up with Gerry in the early 90's and
stayed for the ride when The Shinkickers was born.
Joining the latest line-up is Paul Daly, who started fronting
bands as a teenager. Paul's skills as a singer and great harmonica
player have earned him support work with the likes of Wilson Pickett,
Meatloaf, Joe Camilleri (to name a few).
Another addition to the band is that of Roy Daniel and his 6
string bass guitar. He started life in Glasgow, Scotland. He came to WA
in 1963 after living in Ireland and England. Well known in the blues
scene, he is a much sought after session player and has toured with
Dave Hole, Matt Taylor, Johnnie Johnson, and the list goes on....
And last, but certainly not least, is drummer Ace Follington, who
has at least 30 years experience behind him. He has played with many
groups and artists such as Dave Hole, Chain, The Hippos, The Bondi
Cigars, Earl King (where does it end?.....)
So there you have it. It's been a long time in the making but
finally 'The Shinkickers' has come of age and is taking it to another
level.
The time is now......
